A wedding day moves quickly — a blur of emotions, laughter, and fleeting moments that seem to pass in an instant. From a photographer’s perspective, the most beautiful images come when couples are truly present, immersed in the experience rather than worrying about the details. Staying grounded allows genuine emotion to shine through, creating photographs that feel alive and authentic.
Let Go of Perfection
Every wedding has its surprises — a late flower delivery, a misplaced boutonniere, or a sudden change in weather. These small imperfections often become the stories that make the day unique. Embracing them instead of stressing over them helps couples stay in the moment. The camera captures emotion, not perfection, and genuine joy always outshines flawless planning.
Trust the Team
A wedding day is supported by a team of professionals — planners, photographers, caterers, and more — all working to bring the vision to life. Trusting them allows couples to focus on what truly matters: celebrating love. When the photographer is trusted to capture every detail, there’s no need to worry about missing a moment. Relaxation translates into natural, heartfelt photos.
Schedule Breathing Room
A well-planned timeline with intentional pauses makes a huge difference. Building in small breaks between events — a few quiet minutes after the ceremony or a private moment before the reception — helps couples slow down and absorb what’s happening. These pauses not only reduce stress but also create opportunities for intimate, candid photos that reflect genuine connection.
Focus on Each Other
The best wedding photos come from authentic interactions. Holding hands, sharing a laugh, or exchanging a quiet glance creates images filled with emotion. When couples focus on each other instead of the camera, their connection becomes the centerpiece of every shot. The photographer’s role is to capture those unscripted moments that tell the real story.
Be Present During Portraits
Portrait sessions can feel structured, but they don’t have to be stiff. Taking a moment to breathe, move naturally, and enjoy the experience helps create relaxed, timeless images. A good photographer will guide with gentle direction, encouraging genuine expressions rather than forced poses. The goal is to capture the essence of the relationship, not just the appearance.
Savor the Small Moments
The quiet details — the way the light falls on the dress, the laughter of friends, the warmth of a parent’s hug — are what make a wedding day unforgettable. Taking time to notice these moments helps couples stay grounded. From behind the lens, these are often the most powerful images: the ones that reflect gratitude, love, and presence.
Disconnect to Reconnect
Phones and social media can easily pull attention away from the moment. Setting them aside, even for a few hours, allows couples to fully experience the day. Guests will capture plenty of snapshots, but the professional photos will tell the story best. Being fully present ensures that story is rich with emotion and authenticity.
Remember What the Day Is About
Amid the excitement, it’s easy to get caught up in logistics and appearances. But at its heart, a wedding is about two people committing to a shared future. Keeping that perspective brings calm and clarity. When couples focus on the meaning of the day, every smile, tear, and embrace becomes more profound — and every photo more powerful.
From a photographer’s perspective, presence is the secret ingredient to unforgettable wedding photos. When couples let go of stress, trust their team, and immerse themselves in the experience, the camera captures something truly magical — not just how the day looked, but how it felt. Staying present turns fleeting moments into timeless memories, preserved forever in every frame.

Growing up my mom was always well dressed and documented. There was one image, framed, where her hair was in a soft curly afro, dark lipstick, and a subtle smile. She was breathtaking. In the portrait, she wore a one shouldered velvet top, or dress-I couldn’t tell because it was taken through the window of a vintage car. I moved to the US at 18 and returned home on year to find that it was no longer there! One of my biggest wishes was that I had it. While it was my favorite-I have many others to remind me of the beauty she carries and the style she values.
As a little girl, I would flip through our albums looking at her life and mine. Taking portraits on disposable cameras or going to the studio near our home in Trinidad for Christmas and special occasions. Those are days I cherish so dearly and know the weight of it’s value. I saw my parents work hard and wanted to be what they were, but I became what they modeled for me—a preserver of life’s moments, with an appreciation for timeless, elegant style and an advocate for those who need compassion. Post college, I searched for who I was meant to be as an artist and it was undeniable—when I show up I add beauty to the world and started my company to replicate that with each person and moment I am trusted to capture/photograph.
My clients experience the best of me, with care and rave about my professionalism/expertise and passion, as someone who “knows she’s not just clicking a button….but anchoring memories to photographs that will become artwork, gifts, treasures that capture our moments forever.” They “feel that on the other side of the camera throughout the whole process.”
