Last December I had the honor of traveling to Birmingham, Alabama to do an anniversary session for a college friend. We both met at our undergraduate, Tuskegee University and kept in touch online. So needless to say my heart was so excited to see her after a few years. Sweet memories of her visiting my college apartment and all the moments in-between.

 

Styling and Preparing for Airbnb Session

Before heading down there, we talked about the Airbnb, what she wanted for her photos, and ultimately the beauty of celebrating one year as a married couple. She knew she wanted a casual look so she worked with me to bring their denim, converse, leather jacket and timberland look together.

 

Picking an AirBNB (and tips)

I also took inventory of the lighting via the images online at the Airbnb which were perfect. I loved that I got to see it beforehand because it helped me to see what equipment I would use to get the best results for their images. Tip: When picking an airbnb for your session-pick one that has space for you to move around as well as one with taller ceilings and windows. The natural light that comes will give the dreamy effect in your photos.

The Road Trip

I truly looked forward to meeting her husband for the very first time and the drive down because fun fact, I LOVE road trips. The morning of, I picked up my rental, packed a few snacks and plugged in some music. It was a smooth ride and I couldn’t be happier for our time together. More importantly, bringing their beautiful story to life.

Upon arriving in the downtown Birmingham area, I was drawn to the architecture and scouted spots we could go to after our time inside the Airbnb. I knew it was important to her to have images outdoors as well so finding the perfect spot was a must. When I saw the tall pillars seen below, I knew I had to take them there. They were magical!

So, without further ado-enjoy this beautiful representation of black love, the beautiful space and downtown Birmingham architecture.
